Summer Continues!

Greetings again future fourth graders! So far only Samantha has replied - thanks Samantha! I enjoyed reading her comment and then commenting back to her. I look forward to more of you commenting so I can get to know you and you can get to know me a bit before school resumes this fall.

Logan and I went strawberry picking this week at Carandale's in Oregon. It was a lot of fun! Logan did more eating of the berries than putting them into his container. Today I am going to make two types of strawberry pies with the fresh berries. I'll let you know how they turn out.

Currently I am reading a writing series by Lucy Calkins and learning is happening in almost every paragraph I read. It always amazes me how much I learn when I read. Does this ever happen to any of you? When I'm reading a text that has a lot of new information or information I want to remember I read with a focused mind, a pencil, and many, many post-its, and pad of paper. It may seem cumbersome, but this helps when I jot down ideas of my own or when I want to bookmark a section I find especially important. I'm looking forward to sharing all of the new information I am learning with all of you this fall. I'll also share the books I am reading so all of you can see what I'm thinking when I'm reading.

Until next week - Mrs. Hedstrom :)

Summer Reading 2009!

Welcome new 4th graders!! I hope all of you are having a fantastic summer so far. Only three days in now and Mrs. Schleinz and I have already met to begin planning for next year. We are very excited to have all of you coming up to the 4th grade and we're also excited to try new things during Language Arts.

As for reading, I have a few books going on at the same time. I'm always interested in reading about boys and raising kids. Currently I am reading Why Gender Matters and How to Raise Your Spirited Child. Both are interesting and giving me a lot of insight into raising a boy who has A LOT of ENERGY! I am also reading a variety of teaching material because I always want to keep on improving as a teacher. The only book I haven't begun is my fun summer read. I always pick out a few books that are easy reads to read for pure enjoyment. If you or your parents have any suggestions send them my way please! Logan and I are off to the library tomorrow for our weekly visit, so I'll let all of you know what I pick out for myself and for the little man.

Please comment to this post about what you are reading or what you have been doing so far this summer. I look forward to hearing from all of you!
